Quick British Sign Language course?

Does anyone know where I can get a home study course on learning BSL??? I do not want a quickky so I can talk to a deaf friend I do not want too seriously, it is also BSL and American Sign Language differ??? if I learned BSL can I be heard in the U.S. ??????
